Read about Dr Amy Elliott:

I am a Clinical Psychologist, registered with the HCPC.  My interest in psychology stemmed in part from my own personal experiences with mental health. These experiences led me on a path toward becoming a Clinical Psychologist.

Helps People with a Variety of Difficulties

I have a particular interest in

a range of women’s health issues,

  • examples of this include working with women experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction and adjustment to parenthood.

and in wellbeing at work,

  • considering how to support those who may be experiencing symptoms of burnout or stress at work.

Additionally, I’ve worked extensively with individuals experiencing:

  • anxiety,
  • stress,
  • depression,
  • low self-confidence,
  • self-esteem issues,
  • relationship challenges,
  • difficulties stemming from early life experiences,
  • adjustment to parenting
  • individuals who present with symptoms of OCD,
  • eating disorders
  • and trauma.

I have seen women with problems negotiating the menopause and people with psychological issues arising from physical health problems, (including medically unexplained symptoms, somatic problems, and chronic pain).

My clinical experience has spanned various specialties.

After qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist, I spent several years working in an NHS adult mental health service with individuals with complex mental health needs.

I now work in an NHS staff support service, working with both individuals and teams.  In this role I work with a range of presenting issues, often related to work stress and burnout.

Different Psychological Therapies

During my doctoral training, I gained experience in various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Since qualification, I have undertaken further 3-year training in Experiential Dynamic Therapy (EDT). EDT focuses on the importance of experiencing feelings and considers the obstacles that may get in the way of our capacity to do this.

I have also completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR, Parts 1-4), often used in the treatment of trauma but can be used effectively with many different presenting issues.

I have undertaken further training in models such as Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

What will therapy with me, as your Clinical Psychologist, be like?

If you choose to work with me, we will begin with an initial assessment, usually spanning one or two sessions.

This assessment helps me do my best to understand your current challenges and formulate a treatment plan.

I draw from a diverse range of psychological models to tailor our therapy.

Our journey in therapy is collaborative, and we will strive to establish a safe and trusting relationship.

The duration of therapy varies for each person. This is something we can discuss during the assessment phase.

I have availability for time-limited therapy with a fixed number of sessions, ranging from 6 to approximately 40 sessions.

Please note that I do not provide couples therapy.

Selects a Psychological Therapy Best Suited to you

She works in an integrative way in her current practice, drawing on a range of different approaches to best meet the individual’s needs.

Experiential Dynamic Therapy Clinical Psychologist Specialist

Amy has a particular interest in Experiential Dynamic Therapy (EDT) and has completed a 3-year core training in this approach accredited by the International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA).

EDT is a collaborative approach that focuses on the importance of experiencing rather than avoiding feelings.

When feelings are blocked, this can lead to a range of symptoms or presenting problems, such as anxiety and depression.

Paying attention to emotions and developing the capacity to experience them, can help the individual to become more connected to what is important in their lives and enable them to act in ways that are more in line with this.

This approach can also help to develop a stronger sense of self and in turn deeper, more connected relationships with others.

Client Testimonials for Dr Amy Elliott

“Amy has been really warm and empathetic which has made it a lot easier for me to open up about issues in my past and also tackling problems that I may encounter in the future concerning post natal.

She is a fantastic listener and her advice and feedback has not only affected me but also my relationship with my first born. I will continue to draw on this advice as I move into the next chapter of my life with my second baby.

It has been the perfect balance of receiving helpful advice and also delving into my past to understand why I am the way I am – two things I really wanted to get out of our sessions together. Thank you very much Amy!”

Amy is unfailingly kind, considerate and attentive.

She provided me with a safe place to talk, free of judgement, and helped me work through my difficulties at my own pace. That pace turned out to be much faster than expected! and removed the preconceptions I had of therapy as a daunting and arduous process.

She is a testament to the value of therapy and I would recommend her to anyone.”
