Ten Years of Trusted Private Practice – National Clinical Psychology Service: Continuity and Expertise Through a Decade of Change
9 May 2026 marks ten years since the National Clinical Psychology Service was first registered. Although the limited company itself is registered as dormant, the professional clinical work associated with the service has continued actively on an independent basis.
The service was founded by Dr Jurai Darongkamas, a Clinical Psychologist who qualified in 1990 and became a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in 1998. Alongside many years of dedicated NHS work, she began offering private clinical services in 1996. Since retiring from the NHS in 2019, she has continued to work independently and alongside a small network of trusted professional colleagues.
The past decade has brought significant social, political, and global change, including Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, international conflict, economic uncertainty, and increasing pressures on public services. At the same time, growing awareness of climate change and rapid developments in technology, including artificial intelligence, have contributed to a wider sense of uncertainty and change in everyday life and professional practice.
Over this period, enquiries have remained varied, but certain themes have recurred. These include stress, anxiety, depression, the after-effects of trauma, and difficulties arising when access to NHS services has been limited, delayed, or disrupted. Such experiences can be frustrating and, at times, discouraging for people seeking help, clarity, or specialist psychological input.
A Personal and Professional Approach
At the heart of this work is a simple commitment: to offer thoughtful, high-quality psychological assessment, therapy, consultation, and opinion that people can rely on. This means taking time to understand each individual situation, working carefully and ethically, and drawing on many years of clinical experience.
This same approach also underpins the medico-legal work provided through the service. In this context, careful, balanced, and evidence-based opinion is essential. Assessments and reports are prepared with clarity and independence, with an understanding of the standards expected within legal proceedings.
Working with Trusted Colleagues
Over the years, Dr Darongkamas has built strong professional relationships with other experienced clinicians who share similar values. The colleagues associated with this website are experienced professionals whose work reflects similar standards of care, professionalism, and ethical practice.
Together, the aim is to provide work that is:
- clear and well-informed
- respectful and client-focused
- grounded in evidence, ethics, and experience
Looking Ahead
Reaching this ten-year point offers a moment to reflect; not only on the passage of time, but on the importance of maintaining trust, working carefully, and doing clinical work well.
Whether working independently or collaboratively, the focus remains the same, i.e., to offer a reliable, professional service that people can feel confident in.
