Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy (CBT) specialist plus

As a Clinical Psychologist, Selina likes to work integratively, drawing on many models and theories of evidence-based practice.

Her approach draws strongly from the principles of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy (CBT).  This is a skills-based therapy, encourages individuals to learn and adopt tools and techniques to better their well-being.  It is a practical and goal-oriented approach that can be used to address a wide range of issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, OCD, and many others.

Being trained in Interpersonal Psychotherapy, allows Selina to use it exclusively, or weave it into her sessions, understanding your relationships and social connections and the impact this can have on our mental health and wellbeing.  This form of therapy can be used to improve communication skills, strengthen relationships, and build a stronger support network, which in turn, can lead to significant improvements in mood and overall mental health.

First appointment with Clinical Psychologist

When you first come to see Selina, she will first seek to understand your unique situation—how you are feeling, what you are struggling with, and what has brought you to this point.

Rather than using a ‘one box fits all’ approach.

She is there to listen, without judgement, and get to know you through open and honest conversations, understanding and exploring your experiences.

Selina can then piece together the differing aspects of your life including your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, past experiences, and current challenges, to help see how they may be connected.  This can shed light on why you might be feeling the way you do, and what might be keeping certain patterns or difficulties in place.  Selina will also explore your strengths and resources—things that can help you on your journey to feeling better. Together, this understanding is used to guide your work, to identify areas to focus on, and to develop strategies that are tailored specifically to you.

(CBT is a NICE recommended therapy for certain conditions.)

“Selina’s teaching/delivery style is clear and she is good at using her clinical experience to bring concepts to life. Selina is very intentional about ensuring the level she pitches the topic is suitable (i.e. ensuring we all have the same grounding) and covering fundamentals to ensure everyone could follow content despite different levels of knowledge/expertise.  Was great that she left time at the end to for group discussion of questions that were outside of the session content/objectives”

“Really enjoyed being taught techniques, the papers were not difficult / jargon heavy. utilisation of the vignette was great. felt like you came away with things to put in your toolbox, good pace- really enjoyed the lecture!”
