Which Therapy is Best For Me? Talking therapies Types.
There are many different types of psychological therapies. Clinical Psychologists are trained to tailor-make better therapy for you.
The choice of talking therapy is usually determined by
- your preference
- an understanding of how your problems started,
- why they are hard to change without therapy and
- what you want to change.
So the question of “Which therapy is best for me” depends on many factors; for example, how you operate as a person, do you like structure or detest it.
It is essential that you find someone that you feel you can build a good working therapy relationship with; that the building blocks are there for a good therapeutic relationship.
That underpins the which therapy works best for me question.
The question is more like, which therapy is best for me when I believe I can have a good relationship with a therapist? (or therapies).
Research shows that therapy can help many people.
Clinical Psychologists offer Formulation (a way of understanding how the problems started and what keeps them going). This means therapy can then be targetted as needed.
