Neuroaffirming Autism & ADHD Assessments for Adults
Do you think you would benefit from an assessment for ADHD or Autism?

Request a neuroaffirmative assessment that focusses on what’s true for you (rather than what’s wrong with you).

Here there is information on:

  • What neuroaffirming assessment means,
  • Who can benefit from an Autism and ADHD assessment or AuADHD assessment
  • What to expect in an Autism or ADHD assessment?
  • Why Seek a Diagnosis in Adulthood?

If you’re wondering whether Autism, ADHD or AuDHD describes your experience, a neuroaffirming assessment can help you make sense of things without judgement or labels that feel unhelpful.

Our Consultant Clinical Psychologists work with you to understand what’s true for you — your strengths, your challenges, and what you need day to day.

Whether you pursue a formal diagnosis or simply want a clearer picture, the process is collaborative, compassionate and practical.

So many people tell me they can’t get a referral for autism assessment or ADHD assessment on the NHS or have been told there is a very long wait of months or years…

What are Neuroaffirming Autism and ADHD assessments for adults?

A neuroaffirming assessment is a compassionate helpful approach to understanding difference – how we can be wired differently; not judging, just accepting that fact.

We don’t see autism and ADHD as something “wrong” that needs to be “fixed”. This type of assessment values neurodivergent experiences as part of the natural diversity of human brains. Neuroaffirming means we recognise different brains, not deficits. We listen, validate your lived experience, and focus on what helps — at home, work, study and in relationships.

I’ve had people ring up who have said I have been given the diagnosis of Autism/ADHD. Now I am “shattered”. “I don’t know what it means, what to do next”. “They just went through a check list with me”. A good quality assessment is not about fitting you into a clinical box and nothing else.

It’s about listening to your story, exploring your unique strengths and struggles. It should be a supportive process that helps you understand why you might have always felt “different”—perhaps struggling with focus, social exhaustion, sensory overwhelm, or covering up your true self (“masking”) to get through daily life.

You might well experience the world differently than others.

If a diagnosis is appropriate, then a helpful assessment ends up with you being clearer about yourself.

This can help you then access support, community, and self-understanding.

Who can benefit from an Autism and ADHD assessment?

Many people tell me that they have received all sorts of other diagnoses, including personality disorder, mood disorders, but the overall bigger picture about themselves as individuals was missed.

Historically, many women were overlooked and their neurodivergent selves not recognised. They did not receive timely support and help.

Non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals can also be overlooked from the possibility of having Autism or ADHD.

You might have tried your best to “fit in” for years, “masking” but that’s so tiring and comes at such a cost (for you, your loved ones, your social life, your workplace).

You are now ready to consider this part of your identity, to learn more.

What to expect in an Autism ADHD assessment?

Our Consultant Clinical Psychologists offer a commitment to neuroaffirmative practice, providing a safe, validating space.
They will work together with you (and, where appropriate, a significant other) collaboratively, using a trauma informed and identity affirming approach.

The assessment will result in a focus of what helps.

The assessment may include:

  • A detailed clinical interview (A collaborative conversation about your history and current experiences)
  • Questionnaire selection tailored to your neurotype and lived experiences
  • (If you choose) Additional input from family or partners who know you well and ideally one who has known you since childhood
  • Clear, written practical recommendations
  • A follow-up session is possible to reflect on the outcome and next steps

After the assessment

You will receive a written comprehensive report that summarises your profile and offers specific, practical recommendations. We can also offer a follow-up session to reflect on the outcome and plan next steps (ideas for workplace adjustments, therapy options, community resources).

You’ll be supported at every step with care and transparency.

Whether or not you receive a diagnosis, the goal is to help you understand yourself better—and to offer tools that can genuinely improve your quality of life.

Why Seek a Diagnosis in Adulthood?

For many adults, a formal diagnosis is not about needing permission to be who they are—it’s about language, validation, and support.

It can help:

  • You ask for reasonable adjustments at work or study
  • Access therapy, community, or support groups tailored to you and your neurotype
  • Let go of unhelpful self-blame, shame, or years of feeling “not good enough”
  • Reframe your life story with compassion

A Respectful Process, Tailored to You

Every assessment is tailored to meet your needs. We recognise that no two neurodivergent people are alike—and our approach reflects that.

Whether you’re seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, a formal Psychology report to show others, or simply space to explore the question, we’re here to help.

Whether or not you receive a diagnosis, the goal is to help you understand yourself better—and to offer tools that can genuinely improve your quality of life.

FAQs

Can I have an assessment without a family member present?

Yes. You’re welcome to attend appointments alone. If a partner or relative can contribute, we’ll agree how and when.

Is an online assessment valid?

Yes. For many adults, online appointments are more accessible. We still ensure a thorough, evidence-based process.

Will I automatically get a diagnosis?

Not necessarily. The aim is an accurate understanding and clear recommendations; diagnosis happens when the criteria are met.

What if I’ve been misdiagnosed before?

We take a fresh, whole-person view and consider how Autism/ADHD may overlap with other experiences.

How soon will I receive my report?

We’ll agree on a timeframe at the outset and keep you updated.
