People do not always arrive for therapy with a diagnosis or a clear name for what is wrong. The first appointments provide an opportunity to understand what has been happening, how it
is affecting your life and what you would like to be different. Laura will then discuss with you whether she is the right psychologist to help and what approach may be most useful.
Laura has extensive experience supporting people who are living with long-term physical health difficulties, including chronic pain, long-term health conditions and Functional
Neurological Disorder (FND).
Physical health difficulties can affect much more than the body. They may change how you see yourself, what you are able to do, your relationships, work, independence and plans for
the future. Living with symptoms, uncertainty or changes in day-to-day life can also understandably affect mood and emotional wellbeing.
Laura works collaboratively with people to understand the wider impact of their health difficulties, including the interaction between physical symptoms, emotional wellbeing and everyday life, and to find ways of managing this impact while moving towards a meaningful and fulfilling life.
For people living with persistent pain and FND, psychological therapy may form one part of wider multidisciplinary care. Laura’s work is individually tailored to the person and the
difficulties they would like help with.
Laura does not take a one-size-fits-all approach to psychological therapy. She will work with you to develop a shared understanding of the difficulties you are experiencing, what may be
maintaining them and what you would like to change.
She is experienced in a range of evidence-based psychological approaches, including:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness. She also
incorporates Internal Family Systems (IFS) principles into her therapeutic work.
The particular approach, or combination of approaches, will depend upon your individual needs, experiences and goals for therapy.
Therapy may be relatively brief and focused on a particular difficulty, or longer-term where the problems are more complex or longstanding.
Laura offers online psychological therapy to people living across the UK, as well as some face-to-face, and outdoor therapy appointments in Lichfield, Staffordshire.
Outdoor therapy is a therapy approach that increasingly appeals to many, to break away from the traditional therapy environment. For some people, walking side-by-side and spending time outdoors can make therapy feel more natural, relaxed and less formal than meeting in a traditional consulting room.
Laura offers a range of therapy settings (remote, face-to-face, and outdoor therapy) as she strongly believes that therapy should be adapted to the person, not the other way around.
Laura can discuss the different options with you and consider what is likely to suit you best.
Some daytime, weekday evening and weekend appointments may be available.
